New Play Area at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills

UPDATE 10/2016: Please note that the play area has been relocated to the food court area (near the carousel). It still looks roughly the same.

PLEASE NOTE: This post was written in 2012 and while it should still give you a good overview of the experience, it is also possible that it may contain some outdated information. Please check their website for the most current information, especially about things like hours and pricing. To get the latest schedule for the carousel and any other kid-friendly seasonal activities, you can also contact their management office at 860-644-1450.

If you notice something in this post that needs to be updated, please feel free to leave a comment with the updated information, or email us at outandaboutmom@gmail.com and we will be happy to make the updates. Hey, it takes a village, right? 🙂

2012 Post

Earlier this year, Mandy wrote about our visit to The Shoppes at Buckland Hills with its many kids’ play areas including an indoor playscape, carousel, and seasonal train ride. Well, a few months back, we heard that the indoor playscape had been completely redone. After so many positive comments from readers on our Facebook page about the great new play area, I couldn’t wait to check it out for myself. So I took Boo there this week to give us his “expert” opinion 🙂

The play area is still located on the first floor of the mall, right outside the Barnes & Noble. It’s actually the same area, it just has all new play structures.

Note the rules:

Also note that we are breaking rule #3. Oops. Next time I will remember the socks. (We were not the only ones breaking this rule, by the way. Hey, it’s sandal season.)

Boo had a fabulous time with the new play structures. They are so much more colorful and creative now. Plus, there are more of them, which definitely cuts down on the traffic jams and pile-ups 🙂

There are lots of cute critters, fun tunnels, and tiny slides. And all the play structures are still made out of that great padded material. Personally, I think these smaller-scale structures are much better suited to the target age-group for this play area. Hopefully, this change will discourage older kids (those who exceed the maximum height requirement set out in the rules) from wanting to play in here too. I sometimes found that to be a problem in the old play area. As we all know, it’s so easy for a bigger kid to unintentionally harm a little one by playing a bit too rough. Now the play area is much more geared towards the younger set.

There are some neat new activities hanging on the walls too.

And still plenty of room for strollers and plenty of benches for tired parents.

So there you have it. The new play area at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills. Creative, colorful, and definitely Boo-approved 🙂

Don’t forget to check out Mandy’s original post for all the additional details about The Shoppes at Buckland Hills play areas.

Have you been to the new play area? What does your little one think?

Hi! You might want to delete the carousel hours from the post and instruct readers to call for up to date schedule. I took the kids today and the carousel did not open until 2 — too late for us since we were there in the morning. The kids were so disappointed, but luckily there was ice cream nearby!! (Ice cream at 10:30 a.m., yay!!!!)
    Thanks for your great site!!!!

Alyss – Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that it wasn’t open this morning. I did just call the mall and got the latest schedule which I’m including below and will definitely add to the post. They said that the hours changed this year for the school year and they might move them back to an earlier time this summer but they haven’t decided yet. Thank you so much for the heads up! Current schedule: Monday – Thursday from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Friday & Saturday from 11 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Sunday from noon – 6 p.m.
