The NEW Playground at Elm Ridge Park in Rocky Hill

Good news! Playgrounds are slowly starting to open up again. And although you’ll want to check out municipal websites or call local Parks & Rec departments to double check on the status of those destinations before heading out, you can use our popular Big List of Connecticut Playgrounds to discover the more than 50 playgrounds we’ve visited over the years!

And today, I’ve got a new playground to share. It’s the new playscape at Elm Ridge Park in Rocky Hill!

We actually visited this playground on an unseasonably warm day back in January (boy, does that feel like a lifetime ago!). But before I could post about it, we found ourselves in the midst of a lockdown. So I’ve been waiting patiently for news that Rocky Hill has opened their recreation facilities.

We have visited Elm Ridge Park before, when it had the old playground. And the new one is definitely an improvement!

Old playground (circa 2012):

That itty bitty baby boy in orange is now my big almost 10-year-old!

New Playground (2020):

Now that’s a makeover, right?!

Each of my kiddos (ages 9, 6 & 2) found plenty of activities to keep them busy, busy, busy.

Little Miss loved the slides.
He’s my climber.

Both boys love anything they can hang from.

This guy enjoyed taking a spin.
Plenty of swing options.
Including this neat one.
There is a sand play area too, though I can’t be sure that’s open given the current pandemic situation (close contact and toy sharing seem like obvious no-no’s right now).
The original mini playscape is still there, which is nice if you’re looking to stay out on the periphery.

The pool is nearby, but as of right now it is open only for town residents. And there are a series of other precautionary measures being taken, as you can imagine.

I did not notice any restroom facilities on our visit, but that was back in January. So it’s possible there are some porta-potties there now. (Restrooms located in the pool area are reserved for pool patrons.)

Elm Ridge Park is also offering a Drive-In Movie Series during select dates in July and August (preregistration required). Another pandemic-friendly activity! Be sure to check their Facebook page for information and updates on park and facility openings/closures and other activities.

So if you’re starting to venture back out again, check out this new playground at Elm Ridge Park, or one of the DOZENS of playgrounds on our Big List of Connecticut Playgrounds.

Stay safe out there!
