Heated Tees at Chris Cote’s Golf Range in Southington

PLEASE NOTE: This post was written in 2021 and while it should still give you a good overview of the experience, it may also contain some outdated information. Please visit Chris Cote’s website for the most current information, especially about things like pricing and schedules.

2021 Post:

A few weeks ago, before all this snow that now offers endless possibilities for outdoor play, the boys were getting restless. And when I say boys I mean, all three of them: my two sons plus my husband.

When I offhandedly mentioned that it was too bad the driving range isn’t an option in the winter (my husband is an avid golfer and the boys have displayed a growing interest since they started taking lessons at The First Tee several years ago), my husband casually remarked that he’d heard of an outdoor driving range in Southington that was heated. Wait, what? Why had he not told us about this before!

My oldest (we called him “Boo” back then) holding his first golf club on an outing to celebrate his first birthday in 2011!
A few years later at his first First Tee lesson at age 6.
My babies (ages 3 & 6) taking their first round of mini golf very seriously (back in 2017).

I practically shooed the boys out the door–and off to some much needed outdoor activity–that very second (while I stayed home with little miss who’s not totally trustworthy with heavy metal objects she can swing around–haha). The tradeoff for my self-induced afternoon of dealing with toddler tantrums? Hubby had to document his outing with they boys and provide me with material for a post!

So for the first time in the almost TEN YEAR history of this blog, today’s post is brought to you by one of the original “out and about dads” 🙂

Chris Cote’s Golf Shop has a couple locations, but today we’re focused on their Soutington spot. That’s because unlike their Portland range, this one has heaters above each tee!

Nice big parking lot!
There is a second lot if that first one is full. If you park there, you’ll need to walk across this foot bridge to get to the entrance.

You will need to enter the store briefly to pay for your bucket of golf balls, but then it’s right out back to one of the two tiers of heated tees.

Pay inside at the register in the lobby area (credit cards accepted)
Then head outside to the lower level tees…
…or upstairs to the top level.
There is also an elevator.

Outside on the tees there is a heater overhead to help keep the area bearable in the cold. You’ll still probably need your outdoor gear, but at least no one will be shivering or complaining of frostbite!

Another neat thing about this location is that it’s a Toptracer Range. If you download the Toptracer Range App, you can log into the app and connect to the device, which is available at each bay.

Then you can do fun things like track your shots and even play simulated games!

The boys loved this! They could see how far their shots went and in what direction. (My husband just used his user profile to login for the boys.)

All three of them shared two large buckets of balls and it took them about an hour to hit them all.

If you’re looking for a bit more practice, there is a chipping and putting green to the right of the main entrance (sorry, no heat there though!).

Restrooms are located to the right of the register in the lobby (where you pay for the ball buckets). And there is a beverage vending machine outside by the tees (at least we know there is one on the first level!). There is also a retails store. It closes earlier than the golf range though, so just keep that in mind if you’re planning to do any shopping.

I guess golf can be a four season sport after all!

Wow, this sounds awesome! I definitely want to try it with my 5 year-old. I’ve been wanting to teach her for a while.
