Sewing Classes for Kids at Hartford Stitch

Do you know what we love even more than stumbling upon new family-friendly destinations and experiences to share? When our readers write to us and share their new finds!

So we were downright ecstatic when Out and About Mom reader, Dina sent us an email with not 1, not 2, but THREE suggestions for future outings!

Well, we decided pretty quickly that we couldn’t just sit on these ideas until we had a chance to explore them for ourselves. So we asked Dina if she’d share a little bit about her experiences–and she said yes! (Thanks, Dina!)

Over the next few days, we’re going to give you a sneak peek at three new-to-us destinations (all pandemic-friendly–never thought that would be an official blog term!!). We can’t wait to try them out with our own families, but if you beat us to it, we’d love to hear about your experience too–just leave us a comment at the bottom of this post!

First up– it’s entertainment, it’s a life skill, it’s both! Sewing workshops for kids (and grownups too) at Hartford Stitch in West Hartford.

Now, technically this one is not completely new to us. A few years ago our writer Jodie shared her experience with her two sons at Hartford Stitch. However, that was before the studio moved to its current and expanded location. So we’re still counting this as new 🙂

Dina writes:

In an effort to get out of the house, we eagerly looked to explore COVID friendly shops. We headed to a variety of local places which are new to us.  First stop- Hartford Stitch which is located on the second floor in a renovated house in West Hartford.  Our daughter, age 11, was able to sew a gnome.  In the lesson, she was able to learn to use the sewing machine to create this soft, cute elf. All students were able to customize their gnome by picking out the fabric for both the “body” and the hat.

Finished product–adorable, right?

Hartford Stitch offers a wide variety of classes for kids and grownups. You can check out all their in studio offerings HERE. Currently, they are also offering an array of virtual experiences so you can learn some sewing techniques from the comfort of your own home.

These include E-courses for purchase, as well as many FREE videos to inspire your creativity! Check them all out HERE.

Stay tuned for Dina’s next find! Let’s just say we’re really fired up about it 😉
