5 NOT-SO-SCARY HALLOWEEN EVENTS FOR FAMILIES IN CT (2021)

At Out and About Mom, we’ve always had a soft spot for Halloween. I mean, what other holiday practically requires that grownups act like kids?

To make sure you find lots of opportunities to enjoy this fun holiday with your kiddos of all ages, we’ve pulled together a list of not-so-scary Halloween happenings at some of our favorite Connecticut destinations (hey, we don’t want our kids climbing into bed with us after a 3am nightmare either! Ha!).

No matter which event you choose, we know you’ll have a frighteningly good time 😉

Enjoy!

26th Annual Scarecrows Along Main in Old Wethersfield

Come to the historic district of Wethersfield during the month of October and see something spooktacular! Scarecrows will be popping up alongside shops, restaurants, museums, colonial homes and more this fall season. Grab a warm cup of coffee from Heirloom Market or a delicious ice cream from Main Street Creamery and wander at will! (Check out our post from the 2020 event here!)

Main Street (between Garden Street and Hartford Avenue) Wethersfield

Pumpkin Patch Trolley Ride at CT Trolley Museum in East Windsor

Ride a historic trolley car out to the pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin! Then it’s back to the Visitor Center where you can decorate your pumpkin with the provided materials. Enjoy the harvest outside play area, and explore the museum as well! Fri.-Sun until October 30th. Tickets must be purchased online in advance as there will be no ticket sales at the Trolley Museum on the day of the event. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Masks are required in all indoor public spaces. Social distancing continues to be practiced within the Visitor Center. View their full COVID-19 policy here.

58 North Road, East Windsor

Pumpkintown USA in East Hampton

The Village is back! This year, you can enjoy visiting the pumpkinheads in their village AND a journey through the Pumpkintown Forest in the comfort and safety of your own personal vehicle. Visitors of all ages will delight in over 100 pumpkinhead people and their pets in these two venues!

RESERVATIONS FOR THE RIDE ARE REQUIRED. Reservations can be made online. Find more details and updates on their website or Facebook page. TIP: If you are planning to visit The Village while you’re there (highly recommended!), make sure you check in at The Ride first. That way you’ll give yourself plenty of time to stroll through The Village without losing your place in line for The Ride.

93 E High Street, East Hampton

Ray of Light Farm Not So Scary Halloween Drive-Thru in East Haddam

The NOT-SO-SCARY HALLOWEEN event this year will be a drive-through event. An experience designed for young children, but fun for all ages! Come see their magical Pony Trail, decorated & lit up for Halloween! You will find all sorts of exciting sights on the way, as well as their human characters dressed for the occasion! Candy will be passed out to the little visiting goblins. This will be a fun event, daylight and in the dark. Only difference is, you’ll see all the beautiful lights in the dark. Drive-through dates are: October 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 29th & 30th from 5:45pm – 8:00pm (last time slot for tickets will be 7:45pm). Visit their website to buy your ticket online. $5/person age 18 months+. THIS EVENT CAN SELL OUT so please purchase ahead. Please note that the farm and tack shop will not be open to visitors during this event. Please do not exit your car during this event.

232 Town Street, East Haddam

Flaming Farm Haunted Walk Through in West Simsbury

New this year! They will no longer be doing the traditional haunted hayrides. Instead they are focusing on a more spooky but fun, kid friendly family walk through. This does take place on the petting zoo side of the road so you will see the animals. Some might be sleeping at night or might come to say hi. A little scary, a lot of fun! Strollers not recommended. $10 per person. They recommend purchasing tickets in advance through their website because due to COVID-19, they are only allowing a certain amount of people to go through at a time.
– Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
– October 15th and 16th (rain date October 17)
– October 22nd and 23rd (rain date October 24)

7 Shingle Mill Road, West Simsbury
