Little Bricks, Big Fun at LEGOLAND New York

My kids love LEGOs. Do yours? I don’t know what it is about these little blocks, but anything made out of them is just way cooler than if it were made out of anything else. Years ago, we visited the LEGO Discovery Center in Westchester, NY and that was a hit with my LEGO-lovin’ crew. So when we first found out a new LEGOLAND theme park was opening in New York, it was a full on count down in our house. Of course, Covid threw a wrench in our trip planning, like it did for most everything else. But last summer we finally made it to LEGOLAND New York! And it was worth the wait πŸ™‚

Today, I wanted to show you some pics from our visit back in August of 2022. We also stayed in the LEGOLAND Hotel, which I totally recommend for the immersive experience (two words: disco elevators). Now, I heard the new water playground is open too! Guess it’s time for a return trip πŸ˜‰

6 Things We Love About LEGOLAND New York:

1. It’s close to Connecticut.

LEGOLAND New York Resort is about a 2-hour drive from where we live just southeast of Hartford. That makes it a totally doable day trip for many Connecticut residents.

2. If you’re not up for a day trip, the LEGOLAND Hotel is a really fun option!

The Legoland Hotel is literally next to the park. You can walk there in under 2 minutes. And when we say this hotel is LEGO-themed, we mean that literally. The rooms come in a choice of LEGO inspired designs (we stayed in a LEGO Kingdom room but other options include LEGO Friends, LEGO Pirates and LEGO Ninjago). The rooms are also structured with families in mind: a bunk room for the kids that sleeps up to 3 and separate space with an adult-sized bed. Our room also had a “Treasure Hunt” for the kids to solve some in-room riddles and open a treasure chest with a real treasure inside!

There is plenty of family-friendly entertainment to be found onsite as well. A zero entry pool, a LEGO playscape in the lobby, an arcade, and a full schedule of kid-friendly events and activities. There’s also a family-style restaurant with plenty of LEGO charm. And free breakfast. And disco elevators! Love the disco elevators πŸ™‚

You’re probably not supposed to climb the LEGO figures but everyone was doing it. Shhhhhh….. πŸ˜‰

Pool, arcade and a full service restaurant (don’t forget to make a reservation!).

3. The park’s organizational structure is so clever!

The park is organized into sections based on popular LEGO collections such as Ninjago, LEGO City, LEGO Pirates, LEGO Castle and more!

I snapped this pic of the map in the hotel lobby, but you can find (and download) a much better quality version here.

Most of these areas have similar components with very different designs. For example, most of the different LEGO worlds have a playscape. In the LEGO Pirates area, it’s a massive ship. In the Ninjago area, it’s a pair of climbable cube structures. This was really fun for my kids as they ran around each new area trying to locate the awesome themed play structure they knew was there somewhere!

Each area also has it’s own food themes: you’ll find a hot dog stand in LEGO City (OMG try the Latin Dog!), Brickbeard’s Food Market in LEGO Pirates (possibly the spot with the most eclectic variety), Royal Feast in LEGO Castle (FYI for the picky eaters: hamburgers and chicken fingers found there!) and Ninja Kitchen in Ninjago, just to name a few.

Another genius move: Some rides that are “too big” for your little ones have a “mini” version perfect for tiny tots. For example, if the kiddos aren’t ready for the full size Dragon coaster in LEGO Castle, there’s a pint-sized version nearby (Dragon’s Apprentice). Same goes for the Driving School in LEGO City. Big cars on the big track for the big kids, little cars on a little track for the little kids. As a mom with kids who, at the time, ranged in age from 4-11, I really appreciated that all my kids could have similar experiences and no one felt left out πŸ™‚

4. Miniland!

Okay, this one is for all the LEGO fans ages 1-101: Dozens of famous places and landmarks made miniature! Like I said, everything is just cooler when it’s made from LEGOs πŸ™‚

5. Life-sized LEGOs = soooo many cute photo opps πŸ™‚

6. Minifigure Mayhem (Perhaps my most favorite toy souvenir ever!)

If you’re looking for an affordable (and reasonably sized) souvenir, Minifigure Mayhem is the place to find it! We had so much fun sifting through hundreds of LEGO minifigure components to make our own unique set. I think the cost for a pack of three DIY minifigures was around $15 when we were there. Bargain!

This quick trip was such a joyful and whimsical adventure for my family. We loved all the little details that went into creating this ultimate destination for LEGO-lovers.
