A New Playground for Veteran’s Memorial Park in Hebron, CT

About a lifetime ago I took my toddler “Boo” (now 14 and definitely no longer answering to the nickname “Boo” LOL) to the Veteran’s Memorial Playground in Hebron, CT for one of the early outings on this blog. Recently, I was delighted to discover that this park has received a HUGE playscape upgrade! So I thought I’d take my 7-year-old to explore the new structures and give me her seal of approval as our resident playground aficionado. Spoiler alert: She loved it 🙂

While we are looking at the map, let me point out The Flour Girl Cafe, which is the perfect spot if you’re looking for a quick and delicious bite or cup of coffee 🙂 You can even order ahead online Monday-Friday!

Now onto the main event…

Large parking lot.
The playground is located towards the back of the park, which is great since that means it’s far from the street!
A first look at the new playground!

There are two separate structures. One for older children and one for toddlers and preschoolers.

Preschool playscape on the left.
A closer look. There are also baby swings over here.

The larger playscape is impressive! It has several features that we haven’t seen before at other playgrounds.

–
So many interesting ladder features.
Note that twisty ladder on the left. A fun challenge!
This was really fun. It’s almost like a ropes course to get across.
–
–
This is kind of an interesting twist on monkey bars.

This is a really unique structure too. I love that it has so many ways to climb and kids can approach it creatively.

–
Another swing set.
A nice picnic area. There are also benches nearby.
If you are visiting soon after this post was published, just be aware that there is still some construction going on adjacent to the playground.
Stay tuned for the new skate park!

Veteran’s Memorial Park also has a baseball field (gotta do this research for all my fellow baseball mamas!). There is a building nearby with restrooms that were locked when we were there, but may be open during games. Looks like there may be a snack bar there during games too. (There was a porta-potty near the playground but based on it’s location I couldn’t tell if that was there just for the construction site or if it would still be there once the work was completed.)

The building with restrooms is just beyond this basketball court, but it was locked up the weekend we were there.

The new playground is definitely a wonderful improvement to the park! I hope you get a chance to check it out with your kiddos soon too 🙂

We live in Hebron and really like this park except for the lack of a bathroom. I’ve never seen the bldg open and the Porta potty is only there when there is active construction going on.

Thank you so much for giving us that tip about the restroom situation! We totally agree– it’s hard to take kids anywhere without a reliable bathroom option. But at least we can give parents the heads up now. Thank you again!
