Hi friends! Today we’ve got a special guest post from the wonderful folks at the Stowe Center for Literary Activism in Hartford.

They are on the blog to tell us about their recurring summer program for kids ages 5+, which starts this weekend and continues through August. We can’t wait to check out this event ourselves, but in the meantime, we wanted to make sure you have all the details. So keep reading to find out more about this unique and inspirational outing opportunity!

Emerging Activist & Inheriting Freedom: Inspiring Intergenerational Conversations and Craftivism at the Stowe Center for Literary Activism
Looking for something fun, meaningful, and creative to do with your family? The Emerging Activist & Inheriting Freedom series at the Stowe Center for Literary Activism is the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. It’s thoughtful, interactive, and gets everyone—from kids to adults—talking about what freedom, justice, and activism mean today.

The day kicks off with Emerging Activists, a free, hands-on workshop where kids, tweens, and teens get to dive into crafts, storytelling, and activities that explore how they can make a difference. Whether it’s exploring ideas like individuality and confidence, reading about young changemakers, or creating art inspired by big ideas—this space is all about inspiring the next generation. This program is FREE. It does not require registration or the purchase of admission, and you can drop in any time between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to participate!

Then, at 2:00 PM, Inheriting Freedom takes guests on an intergenerational history tour that highlights stories of Frederick Douglass, Anna Murray Douglass, and Harriet Beecher Stowe. This isn’t your typical museum tour: it’s conversational, inclusive, and centered on themes like love, family, and fighting for what’s right. Everyone’s encouraged to ask questions, share thoughts, and reflect together. This program requires the purchase of general admission and advance registration; see below for details.

Whether you’re six or sixty, there’s something here for you. These programs are not only informative and inspiring—they’re a chance to connect across generations through shared stories, values, and creative action. Join us in building a space where history meets action—and where everyone is empowered to be part of the story!
