Tucked in a corner on Farmington Avenue in Hartford’s west end is a duckpin bowling alley that has served the community for seven decades: Ducks On The Ave.
Walk down the staircase and you will enter a very sweet fun zone full of nostalgia and old school entertainment that’s been here since 1939.
It’s not the full-sized bowling pins and bowling balls you’re most probably used to. This is Duckpin bowling with shorter stubbier pins, a holeless ball about the size of a medium grapefruit and you get 3 balls per frame instead of just 2!
The name “duckpin” is said to come from the way the smaller, squat pins scatter when hit – similar to a group of ducks taking flight. The balls are less than 4 pounds, so you can throw it faster and more comfortably for your fingers and back.
Ducks On The Ave offers a unique duckpin bowling experience that’s both fun for families and affordable for all ages. There is also Disco Ducks glow bowling on Friday and Saturday nights. They offer some food and guests may bring their own food and beverages; however, bar service may not always be available.
The venue’s clean environment combined with engaging arcade games enhances its appeal as an ideal entertainment option in Hartford.
