Throwback Thursday: Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo

Today’s Throwback Thursday post is all about zoos.

As I was looking through old posts trying to decide what to use for this week, I realized that Shawna and I have been to 4 zoos in 4 states.  Wow, we are quite the travelers.  And with summer travel season in full force, the zoo might be a great destination for an upcoming pretty summer day.  So sit back and take a gander at some of the zoos we have visited over the last two years.

Of course we have to start off with the zoo located in our home state of Connecticut, Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport.

But you can also get a little more adventurous and head over the border to visit a zoo in one of our neighboring states.

We’ve been to Central Park Zoo in, of course, New York City.

Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island.

And the Zoo at Forest Park in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Zoos seem to be a popular destination for kids of all ages and they can even be a reasonably priced outing when you take into account that you can get passes for some of the zoos through your local library’s museum pass program (e.g. Beardsley Zoo and the Zoo at Forest Park).

What is your favorite zoo to visit?  Where do we still need to go?  Tell us in the comments section below.

I took my little man to Southwick Zoo in Mendon MA in May. It was a great Zoo. The have a Deer exhibit where you basically walk through the woods feeding deer my guy loved that the deer came right up to him. I would suggest it to everyone I know I loved it so much.

Amy – Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like MA has a lot of zoos! I think my kids would love the deer exhibit you described. I hope we can fit this destination into our Fall agenda.

Check out Lupa Zoo outside of Springfield! You can feed the animals, including a giraffe! MUCH better than the Forest Park Zoo.

Carolyn – sounds like a place I need to check out!
